HANZ, Manfred “Fred“ - Peacefully, at his residence, with his family by his side, on January 26, 2013 after fighting a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Manfred “Fred“ Hanz of Appin in his 54th year. He is greatly missed by his wife and best friend of 33 1/2 years, Dianna (Jongeneelen). Loving father of Samantha and Kaitlyn and son in law Wesley. Predeceased by his parents Bruno and Katerina Hanz. Fred was like a son to Ken & Rita Jongeneelen and is a dear brother in law to Marianne & John Timmermans, Ken Jr. & Carolyn Jongeneelen and Yvonne & Kurt Wigle. Fred was a loving uncle to all his nieces and nephews and adored by an abundance of friends. He was a grounded and genuine, loyal man who found happiness easily. He valued the simple things in life, his family and friendships and he loved his hobby farm with all the trees he planted on it since his childhood. Fred enjoyed fishing, canoeing, skiing and swimming, photography and travelling. Thank you to the London Regional Cancer Centre and all the wonderful staff for their compassionate care throughout Fred's treatments. Also to Christine Hobbs (VON) and Candice Bray N.P. for your exceptional compassionate and loving care. You have been amazing to us throughout this journey. Thank you to all our dear friends; you know who you are, for all the thoughtfulness and care you've given us throughout this time in our lives. Thank you Saint Jude. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Strathroy on Tuesday, January 29 at 2 PM with Fr. Lucio Couto officiating. Interment to follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mt. Brydges. Donations in memory of Fred can be made to the National Pancreatic Cancer Canada Foundation. A tree will be planted as a living memorial to Manfred.
